"Some memories haunt us. Others come back with the rain."
"Because even in your darkest hour, you are not alone.
"When nightmares and reality become twins, it's impossible to feel safe."
Gary Demers is an award-winning author, publishing strategist, and founder of The Gary Group Press, an authority-led author incubator designed for writers who take their work and its long-term impact seriously.
Over the course of his career, Gary has guided manuscripts from early drafts to professionally published works across print, ebook, and audiobook formats, while helping authors navigate the deeper psychological and strategic realities of publishing. His work is grounded in a simple but often overlooked truth: publishing is not merely technical; it is decisional, relational, and deeply human.
Gary’s professional life has unfolded across multiple disciplines, each shaping how he approaches authorship and leadership today. He served as Director of Research and Education for the Southwest Institute for Behavioral Sciences and led educational initiatives within large writer organizations. His career has been informed by clinical psychology and behavioral science, giving him a long-standing sensitivity to the internal pressures authors face when bringing meaningful work into the world.
Following high school, Gary served in the U.S. Navy. After completing his military obligation, he pursued higher education, ultimately earning three degrees across distinct professional disciplines, including a PhD, while working on-camera for an NBC television affiliate and as an actor and model in regional television commercials. During this period, he was also building a family. These experiences reinforced discipline, public communication, and a grounded sense of responsibility that continue to inform his professional life.
Through The Gary Group Press, Gary operates a selective publishing ecosystem that includes Notable Libris, the publishing arm, and the Notable Press Award, a national recognition created to support the longevity and seriousness of debut novels. Rather than offering disconnected services, his work centers on author incubation. He provides discernment, guidance, and professional oversight so authors can publish with confidence, clarity, and credibility.
In an era increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and content saturation, Gary is a vocal advocate for human-centered, judgment-driven publishing. His philosophy emphasizes voice over volume, trust over algorithms, and relationship over distribution. He is particularly known for his work in Direct-to-Reader publishing, helping authors build sustainable, reader-owned ecosystems that extend far beyond a single book launch.
Gary lives in San Antonio, Texas, where he continues to write, mentor authors, and develop future-facing publishing models for serious writers navigating the noise of the modern marketplace.
